A progress bar for time itself

A download gets a progress bar. A year gets nothing — it just quietly goes. Progress gives the year a bar: the percentage that's gone, a row of lit dots showing it, and the days still to come. It's the same idea as the year-progress posts you see every January, except it's on your desktop every day instead of once.

Four periods, one switch

Point it at the day for an afternoon nudge, the week for a sprint, the month for a billing cycle or the year for the long view. Switch whenever you like, or put all four on the desktop at once and give each a different theme.

What's left, not just what's gone

Under the bar it counts down: the days left in the year or the month, and the hours and minutes left in today. Leap years, 31-day months and your own region's week all come from macOS, so the numbers are the real ones.

How to add it

  1. Download Flapdot and drag it into your Applications folder.
  2. Open the app and choose the period to track: day, week, month or year.
  3. Right-click your desktop on an empty spot, and choose Edit Widgets.
  4. Search for Flapdot pick Progress and drag the size you want onto the desktop.

Sizes

Progress comes in Small, Medium and Large. macOS lets you drop the same widget on the desktop more than once, so you can keep a small one beside your notes and a large one where you'll see it from the sofa.

  • Small164 × 164
  • Medium344 × 164
  • Large344 × 344

Themes

All eight themes work with Progress: Midnight, Obsidian, Paper, Matcha, Lemon, Sky, Amber, Phosphor. Four of them glow the way a real dot display does; the rest are flat and quiet. Set one for the whole app, or give this widget its own.
